Radon Gas Testing Services

Radon

United Inspection offers the ESL test kit for radon testing for $50.00 with a home inspection. The twin canister test kit is an EPA approved radon test kit. The inspector will place the canisters at the time of the inspection. United does not pick up test canisters. The buyer and/or real estate broker can pick up the canisters. The test is valid from 24 to 199 hours but EPA protocol and best accuracy is 48 hours.

What is radon? Radon is a radioactive gas that you can't see, smell, or taste. It comes from the earth itself, rising up all around us, part of the natural chain of radioactive decay: uranium decaying to radium, then to radon gas, finally to radioactive lead.

What are acceptable levels? The EPA action level is 4 picoCuries of radon per liter of air (4.0pCi/L). Readings below 4.0 are acceptable and readings above 4.0 are not.

Can radon be harmful? Yes. The EPA estimates that up to 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year may be caused by long term radon exposure.

When do I get the results? The canisters are tested within one business day of receiving them and the result letters are mailed the same day. The results can also be obtained via telephone, have your canister number ready.
